Description
Synandrospadix vermitoxicus is a tuberous arum lily from South America. A sprawling, multi-leaved, herbaceous plant emerges from the tuber. Once the tuber reaches a diameter of approximately 10 cm (approximately 200 g), an interesting inflorescence with a brownish-purple spathe develops.
The specific epithet *vermitoxicus* translates roughly as "worm-poisonous ," as the starch-rich tubers were used by indigenous peoples of South America as a deworming agent. Many applications are known in local ethnobotany. However, the plant's actual effectiveness is poorly understood.
