Jungle Wall - Terrarium background with coconut and xaxim

We developed this innovative background for terrariums and paludariums because we wanted to offer an even more durable and easier-to-work-with alternative to the usual Xaxim (tree fern) panels .

These panels consist of filter foam impregnated with coconut latex binder and flocked with xaxim litter. They are free of chemical residues and can be used safely in terrariums and paludariums. We have been using these panels, or rather the underlying mixture, ourselves for many years to create natural-looking backgrounds and hardscapes for our terrariums. Yes, even in poison dart frog terrariums. Thanks to their excellent water retention properties, all kinds of epiphytes, such as orchids and ferns, thrive perfectly on them.

This type of background is now also available from us as pre-cut panels in various sizes. The panels are approximately 1 cm thick. They are significantly more flexible than xaxim panels and can be easily cut with a utility knife. Therefore, they can be rolled up for shipping without any problems and can be easily flattened at home and glued into the terrarium with suitable silicone. Just like xaxim panels, they absorb water and remain moist for extended periods. Please note that the panels may expand slightly upon contact with water due to the swelling of the coconut fiber and xaxim. To prevent ripples in the background later, there are two methods for gluing them into the terrarium:

1. Before gluing, the panels should be trimmed by a few millimeters on one long and one short side while dry, using a cutter.
2. The sheet is soaked with water and thoroughly drained. Then it can be cut to size and fitted. Before gluing with silicone, the foam side should be completely dry and free of water droplets.
